Spatial reasoning under imprecision using fuzzy set theory, formal logics and mathematical morphology

چکیده
In spatial reasoning, in particular for applications in image understanding, structure recognition and computer vision, a lot of attention has to be paid to spatial relationships and to the imprecision attached to information and knowledge to be handled. Two main components are knowledge representation and reasoning. We show in this paper that the fuzzy set framework associated to the formalism provided by mathematical morphology and formal logics allows us to derive appropriate representations and reasoning tools. 2005 Elsevier Inc. Integrating Bipolar Fuzzy Mathematical Morphology in Description Logics for Spatial Reasoning
Bipolarity is an important feature of spatial information, involved in the expression of preferences and constraints about spatial positioning or in pairs of opposite spatial relations such as left and right. Another important feature is imprecision which has to be taken into account to model vagueness, inherent to many spatial relations (as for instance vague expressions such as close to, to t...
متن کاملFusion of spatial relationships for guiding recognition, example of brain structure recognition in 3D MRI
Spatial relations play an important role in recognition of structures embedded in a complex environment and for reasoning under imprecision. Several types of relationships can be modeled in a unified way using fuzzy mathematical morphology. Their combination benefits from the powerful framework of fuzzy set theory for fusion tasks and decision making. This paper presents several methods of fusi...
متن کاملAbduction in Description Logics using Formal Concept Analysis and Mathematical Morphology: Application to Image Interpretation
We propose an original way of enriching Description Logics with abduction reasoning services by computing the best explanations of an observation through mathematical morphology (using erosions) over the Concept Lattice of a background theory. The intended application is scene understanding and spatial reasoning.
متن کاملUnifying Quantitative, Semi-quantitative and Qualitative Spatial Relation Knowledge Representations Using Mathematical Morphology
One of the powerful features of mathematical morphology lies in its strong algebraic structure, that finds equivalents in set theoretical terms, fuzzy sets theory and logics. Moreover this theory is able to deal with global and structural information since several spatial relationships can be expressed in terms of morphological operations. The aim of this paper is to show that the framework of ...
متن کاملFuzzy Models of Spatial Relations, Application to Spatial Reasoning
Spatial relations are an important component of image content, that proved to be useful for recognition of individual objects and for image understanding. Indeed, spatial relations provide structural information about the scene, which is often more stable that individual object characteristics, can help disambiguating objects of similar appearance, and is often available as prior knowledge. A t...
